[Photo Story] Penn State vs. Wisconsin

I think we’ve seen this film before.
In the first conference game of the season, the Nittany Lions took on the Wisconsin Badgers in Beaver Stadium for the 106th annual Homecoming and fifth annual Helmet Stripe game.
After holding a dominant lead until the very end of the fourth quarter, Penn State suffered its first loss of the Matt Campbell era, falling to the Badgers 24-20.
As always, our photographer captured every moment.
Fans packed the team arrival to welcome the Nittany Lions.






The players took the field for some warmups.






With warmups out of the way, it was time for the Nittany Lions’ Big Ten debut.






The defense dominated the Badgers in the first half.





Ryan Barker was the first to put points on the board.

HE’S A FRESHMAN.
True freshman Josiah Zayas tallied his first career pick-six to put the Nittany Lions up 9-0 early in the second quarter.





On Wisconsin’s next drive, Daryus Dixon intercepted another pass.
With great starting field position, Rocco Becht quickly drove it in for another touchdown to put the Nittany Lions up 17-0.

Alumni and friends came back home to Happy Valley to celebrate Homecoming.

The offense kept working, and Barker added three more to put the Nittany Lions up 20-10 going into the fourth quarter.



The defense kept fighting.



After leading by at least 10 points throughout the game, the Nittany Lions could not stop the Badgers. In the last four minutes, Wisconsin scored two touchdowns to take the lead, 24-20.
The Nittany Lions got the ball back with a minute left on the clock.
Hail Marys were tried, hope was there, but folks, we all know how this one ended.





In heartbreaking fashion, the Badgers defeated Penn State 24-20 after dominating the second half, marking their first ranked road win in six years.




The Nittany Lions have suffered losses in their Big Ten home opener in back-to-back seasons and have fallen out of the AP Top 25.






The Nittany Lions are on the road again to take on Northwestern in their first game in New Ryan Field on Friday.
