‘She Could Curse Me Out & I’d Be Happy’: Penn State Students Turn Out In Force For Trisha Paytas Event

Internet personality Trisha Paytas drew quite a crowd at Penn State on Tuesday.

Tickets to her lecture sold out within seconds, and a line of fans stretched from Schwab Auditorium toward downtown State College.

The event was originally scheduled for Heritage Hall, which holds about 400 guests, but organizers moved it to Schwab Auditorium to accommodate a larger crowd of 650.

“We thought that if we could make it happen, moving the venue somewhere with higher capacity would satisfy the people of Penn State,” SPA Logistics Chair Connor Luettgenau said.

The demand for Paytas was clearly there.

Lillian Sisak — one of the first people in line — waited four hours before the show, hoping to see Paytas up close.

“She’s iconic,” Sisak said. “She’s the epitome of pop culture, especially right now on TikTok and Instagram. She’s everywhere.”

Despite the four-hour wait, Sisak said she was glad that she got there early and felt that the wait was worth it.

Students Haley Seidel and Kayla Markworth also waited hours to see Paytas. The two didn’t initially get a ticket, however, and had to wait in the standby line.

Seidel said she didn’t know what she wanted out of the Paytas show, but knew she had to be there.

“I cried a lot when I saw the tickets were sold out,” Seidel said. “She could curse me out and I’d be happy. She can talk about anything.”

When Paytas took the stage, the crowd erupted with cheers.

During the show, Paytas discussed her growth as an influencer and her life as a mom. She also sang her song, “I Love You Jesus,” along with a cover of Lady Gaga’s “Shallow.”

Paytas then took questions from students.

Throughout the entire event, the crowd remained enthusiastic, cheering and clapping for Paytas’ responses and commentary.

With the event selling out in seconds, moving to a larger venue, and creating a line that stretched toward downtown, the turnout showed how interested students were in seeing Paytas.

For sophomore Zac Calamita, the event lived up to the hype.

“This was the best thing that I’ve been to at Penn State,” Calamita said. “I’ve been a huge fan of Trisha since 2018, and to see her for free and up close, she was just so amazing.”
