An Open Letter To Build An AMC Theatre In State College

As a cinephile, I love going to the movie theater to see the newest releases. In State College, however, that is very difficult.
Sure, you have The State Theatre downtown, but it’s a revival theater — one that plays older movies. It is still one of my favorite locations in State College, but I can’t see the hottest new movie there.
The nearest movie theaters are UEC 9 and UEC 12, both roughly 4 miles from campus, and not every student has a car. There is nothing wrong with either of the UEC theaters, but as a movie lover, I expect more. I want to feel the sound from my seat and be overwhelmed by the size of the screen.
What I want is an AMC within the vicinity of State College.
The nearest AMC to State College is in Altoona, about 45 minutes away. When I’m home, there are at least three AMC Theatres, and they’re all about 45 minutes apart.
I’m always within range of an AMC. So, based on that logic, there should be one here in State College.
College students are always searching for the best deal and may not be able to afford going to the movie theater all the time, but still wish to see new movies frequently. They’d be in luck, as AMC offers AMC A-List, which lets folks see up to four movies a week for roughly $30 a month.
Even if you see three movies in one month, you are still breaking even. There are movies coming out left and right that appeal to college students, so I think all parties would benefit from this.
Now, why am I bringing this up now? “Avengers: Endgame: Encore.”
The nerd in me was excited to see the four new post-credits scenes leading up to “Avengers: Doomsday.” But sadly, UEC 12 didn’t show every post-credits scene. Again, not the theater’s fault; it just isn’t up to modern movie-production standards.
If there were an AMC in State College, I wouldn’t have spent $20 on tickets and popcorn to see only 75% of the new stuff, as AMC theaters had all four.
I was so heartbroken after seeing the movie that I just wanted to teleport back to my AMC at home.
On that note, an AMC in State College would improve the mental health of college students like me. It would provide a nice escape from reality for a few hours and offer more entertainment options for the community.
With a chain theater in the area, subscriptions such as A-List can also transfer to locations back home, making it much more convenient for students.
All I’m saying is, I want to come to this place for magic in Happy Valley, so please start construction tomorrow.
Sincerely,
All Penn State cinephiles.
