Staff Picks: The Best Budget-Friendly Meals In State College

State College has plenty of food spots for any possible craving a student may have.
However, college students don’t necessarily have the money to eat out all the time. Meals in State College can cost over $20 —nowhere near college-student budget-friendly.
If you have ever found yourself looking for a good meal without paying an astronomical price, Onward State has you covered.
Our staffers compiled the best cheap meal options for when those high prices are a little much.
Holden Mostofsky: Benny Leone’s
I’ve probably mentioned this in around five different articles, but Benny Leone’s is great.
You can get a $5 cheese slice that’s bigger than your head. If you are really hungry, you can get two for $10, and you still might have some left over.
In my opinion, it’s also one of the best slices you can get in downtown State College.
Gabriel Alpher: Dunkin’
The Dunkin’ $6 meal deal includes a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich, hash browns, and a medium coffee.
A perfect, cheap breakfast that fuels you for your morning and is a great way to start the day.
Sylvia Prebor: Sakura
Sakura is amazing overall, but their 3 rolls for $18 is hard to beat.
It’s takeout only, but they have a drive-thru for pickup, so you don’t even need to get out of your car! I really recommend it for all the college students balling on a budget.
Maggie Alderisio: Local Whiskey Burger Deal
The burger special at Local Whiskey might be the best deal not only in State College but in the entire country.
For $7.59, you get a soft drink, burger, and fries. And this isn’t some crummy burger either. It comes with cheese, bacon, sauce, and toppings on a delicious sesame bun.
The portion of fries is also overwhelming. I currently have some leftovers in my fridge from grabbing this deal with a fellow staffer just earlier today.
Sarah Nasif: Doggies Pizza
Always $2 slices of Doggies Pizza. Enough said.
Laura Wells: Dunkin’
A cheap meal from Dunkin’ is the $6 meal deal, which includes one coffee, a sandwich, and hash browns. Especially since Dunkin’ is opening in the Business Building, this will be perfect for early mornings.
Grace Paulovich: Tadashi
For $12.95, you get two sushi rolls, miso soup, and a side salad. It’s a little over $10, but for an entire sushi meal, it’s a bargain.
It’s a good, cheap eat if you’re looking for something slightly elevated.
