OS Reviews: Coffee Shop Fall Drink Menu Items

If there’s one thing folks love more than pumpkin patches or Halloween in the fall, it’s a good pumpkin spice latte. But who knew that so many coffee shops would think outside the box and create entire menus dedicated to fall drinks?

From caramel apple to banana bread-inspired drinks, local coffee shops are bringing all the cozy flavors to the table. We went to as many as we could find to taste the fall-inspired options.

Here’s what our staff thought about some local fall drinks.

Malea Nadeo: Vibe Coffee Fall Fluff Latte

The fall fluff latte is an iced pumpkin spice latte with a marshmallow rim and marshmallow syrup. You taste the pumpkin spice first, with classic notes of cinnamon and nutmeg. The marshmallow syrup and fluff add a nice extra sweetness to it without making it overly sweet.

This drink is more flavor-forward, and you can definitely taste the pumpkin. I do wish the marshmallow flavor came through a little more, since that’s what makes this drink a bit more unique than the regular pumpkin spice latte! Overall, a really good fall latte.

I gave this drink an eight out of 10.

Malea Nadeo: Vibe Coffee Apple Pie Latte

The apple pie latte comes with cold foam and a caramel drizzle, and the apple flavor is really easy to notice. The salted maple cold foam adds a slightly salty contrast to the sweetness, making the drink a little different from a typical latte.

I’d say this is more coffee-forward, so the apple doesn’t completely overpower the espresso. I liked that you could actually taste the apple, and it’s a solid fall drink, but not my favorite in Vibe’s fall selection.

I gave this drink a 6.5 out of 10.

Malea Nadeo: Vibe Coffee Nana Bread Latte

The nana bread latte is an iced latte with banana syrup and dark brown sugar, topped with dried banana slices.

The banana flavor definitely comes through right away. It’s a little different from the typical banana flavor you’d expect, but it was so great!

I didn’t get as much brown sugar flavor, but that’s to be expected with such a strong flavor. Compared to the fall fluff latte, this one is more coffee-forward, so it’s a good option if you don’t want something super sweet.

I gave this drink a seven out of 10.

Malea Nadeo: Irving’s Banana Brown Sugar Latte

If you’re not a pumpkin spice person but still want a drink that feels like fall, this is a great option.

The banana flavor definitely stands out more than the brown sugar, but the drink still has a good amount of sweetness without being too much.

My favorite part was the maple cinnamon cold foam on top. The flavor combination was great and really brought everything together. Overall, it’s a unique take on a fall latte and a great option if you want something different from the usual pumpkin spice latte.

I gave this drink a 7.5 out of 10.

Malea Nadeo: Good Day Cafe Muddy Pumpkin Chai

I love a dirty chai, so I may be a little biased with this review. The muddy pumpkin chai combines a pumpkin chai with a shot of espresso. It is so simple, but just such a great fall drink.

The chai spices really stand out, giving it that cozy, warm fall flavor. Honestly, it tastes like a fall candle, in the best way. It is on the sweeter side, but the espresso helps balance it out. Overall, a great seasonal drink if you want something that tastes like fall in a cup.

I gave this drink an 8.5 out of 10.

Malea Nadeo: Rothrock Coffee Spiced Pumpkin Latte

If you want pumpkin pie in a drink, this is it.

This is genuinely the best pumpkin spice latte I’ve ever tasted. It uses real pumpkin puree, and you can absolutely taste the difference.

The pumpkin flavor is the star, with the coffee taking a backseat, but in the best way possible. It’s perfectly sweet and flavorful without being overwhelming. Honestly, I don’t even have enough words to describe how good this was. My roommates and I went to Rothrock and tried this latte, and we still talk about how good it is.

I gave this drink a perfect 10 out of 10.

Malea Nadeo: Rothrock Coffee Elderberry Maple Nitro Latte

My first impression was that this drink wasn’t too sweet and leaned more coffee-forward. The espresso was good, but I got much more elderberry than maple.

I was really hoping for a sweeter maple flavor to balance out the berry, but it just didn’t come through enough for me. Overall, it’s not a bad coffee, but I wish the flavors were more balanced.

I gave this drink a four out of 10.

Malea Nadeo: Elixr Pumpkin Spice Latte

If you want a classic pumpkin spice latte but don’t want something overly sweet, this is a good option. Elixr’s pumpkin spice latte is made with house-made pumpkin, brown sugar, and fall spices, and you can definitely taste the traditional pumpkin spice latte spices.

The drink is more coffee-forward and less sweet than some of the other fall drinks I’ve tried. My only issue is that it tasted pretty milky, almost like the milk overpowered the espresso.

It was still a good latte, and they made my drink super fast, which is always a plus!

I gave this drink a 6.5 out of 10.

Tia Kaschauer: Eden Valley Co. Blueberry Cinnamon Muffin Latte

Actually the best coffee I’ve had at State College. They made it very quickly, and I finished it in about two minutes.

It wasn’t too sweet or too coffee-forward. It was the perfect flavor for a Fall day without the pumpkin! I need to go back and try more.

I gave this drink a 10 out of 10.

Holden Mostofsky: Eden Valley Co. Caramel Apple Latte

Eden Valley was a great spot. I’ve never been before, and I’m not even a coffee drinker, but I liked the drink.

I ordered the caramel apple latte and kind of forgot what kind of coffee it was, but it was great. The shop is also in a cool location and very welcoming inside.

Oscar Orellena: Eden Valley Co. Pumpkin Spice Latte

I’m not the biggest pumpkin spice guy, but this latte from Eden Valley Coffee Co. was delectable. Literally the perfect fall drink to get you in the autumn mood.

I would 1000% hit up Eden Valley again just for this. It was sweet, soothing, and just a great drink. Pumpkin spice for the win.
