The Beaver Bowl: An Open Letter For More Football At Beaver Stadium

Everyone knows that Penn State is a football school. So why not bring more football to State College?
In 2024, there were eight exciting football weekends at Beaver Stadium. Seven regular-season home games leading up to a home playoff game against SMU. After a disappointing 2025 season, there will only be seven games played in Happy Valley. But what if there was a way to guarantee an eighth for the future?
Enter the “Beaver Bowl,” a new annual bowl game held right in the heart of Pennsylvania. State College already has everything needed for a bowl game; it just needs to be added to the schedule. With space for over 100,000 fans, Beaver Stadium is perfect for hosting one of the premier postseason college football games. The Nittany Lion faithful pack the stands (and the parking lots) every week of the regular season. It’s time for other teams to see why they love it so much.
But why stop at college football? Get the NFL out to State College! Let the Eagles, Steelers, or better yet, both, play a game in Happy Valley each season. If the two Pennsylvania teams play against each other, host it right in the middle of the state. If they don’t play each other, they can fight over who gets to play in such an interesting location. The NFL has neutral-site games all over the world, in places like Brazil and Germany. State College is just as exciting, right? It’s definitely not in the middle of nowhere or anything.
Beaver Stadium is already used for some things other than Penn State football, but not much. It’s hosted concerts from some of the biggest names in music, and this January, it will host Penn State hockey. Outside of that, it sits empty on many weekends. Bringing more football to State College would be another chance for Penn State to show off the fourth-largest stadium in the world.
Folks, here’s the ask. To the staff at Beaver Stadium, to the NCAA, to the NFL, and to anyone else who can make this happen, let’s bring at least one more football game to Happy Valley every year.
Whether it’s college or professional, both local and traveling football fans are sure to enjoy a game at one of the sport’s premier venues. With the stadium currently undergoing renovations, the debut of any form of the “Beaver Bowl” might have to be delayed a season or two, but if it happens, it will certainly be a hit.
