At today's Penn State Board of Trustees meeting, an appendix was circulated that broke down the university's ongoing major construction projects (those with total cost greater than $5 million). The breakdown is especially interesting given the news that Penn State is postponing authorization of such construction projects until the uncertainty surrounding Penn State's appropriations vis-à-vis the Pennsylvania budget has dissolved. The Penn State Board of Trustees is convening this morning in New York City. OnwardState.com, and its online partner StateCollege.com, will be providing love coverage for the event.
Later this afternoon, the State Senate Appropriations Committee will convene a panel in Harrisburg to discuss the funding of Pennsylvania's state-related universities, chief among them our dear Blue & White. Penn State President Graham Spanier will address the legislators, along with his colleagues from Temple, Pitt, and Lincoln. These hearings happen fairly regularly in the budgetary cycle, but this year should be more of a vigorous exchange than normal given the drama surrounding Governor Tom Corbett's proposed cuts to higher education. OnwardState.com and StateCollege.com will both be there producing live coverage of the event. Check back later today for a liveblog and multimedia from Harrisburg.
A memorial service honoring Bill Schreyer, one of Penn State's most storied philanthropists, will be held this weekend in the Pasquerilla Spiritual Center. The event will begin at 2:00 pm on Sunday and will include remarks from those who knew Schreyer well, including Schreyer Honors College Dean Christian Brady (@shcdean) and head football coach Joe Paterno.
