How far would you walk to see Vanessa Cartlon in concert? Luckily, most students wont need to walk too far next month, as SPA announced that she would be performing at Penn State as part of a concert series that also includes the band Yellowcard.

I'll admit -- and anyone who knows me can attest to this -- I haven't always been a huge fan of THON.
There isn't a powerful enough adjective to describe the fact that Penn State students raise millions of dollars for the Four Diamond Fund every year. Raising $10 million for childhood cancer research and support is something that is so unbelievably special and something that requires an extraordinary amount of time, effort, and love. That being said, and I know it's not the conventional wisdom, we can do better. THON has many problems that aren't being fixed, because frankly, people are scared to talk negatively about THON. Someone once told me, "I hate THON the organization, but I love THON the cause." Before everyone grabs their pitchforks and torches, let me just explain myself.

Are you a wanna-be politician? Does the idea of getting to play around with $120,000 excite you? Do you have an a wrinkly suite or a collection of repulsive ties? Are you a registered student at Penn State - University Park and free on Wednesday nights from 8-10 p.m.?
If you answered yes to any of those questions, perhaps you should consider running for a position in your student government, the University Park Undergraduate Association.

I was able to catch up with our dancers John Tecce (Nittany Nation) and Ally Greer (Penn State Marketing Assocation) during what was the middle of the night for most people. But for our two representatives, nothing that was happening outside mattered. Both claimed to have no idea on the time, but they probably knew that THON had crossed the threshold into Sunday.
