Movin’ On 2010: The Coolest Spring Music Festival

This year's Movin' On was literally the coolest Spring music festival I've ever been to, with temperatures hovering around freezing the entire day. Still, several hundred students braved the cold to attend the show, which I would have to call a success.

Though still not diverse enough for some, this was still the most varied lineup I've seen at Movin' On in the four years I've attended. Between Vince P. rapping over Justice tracks, British Phil doing playing their signature "Swamp Troll Rock", James Kinney proving that you don't need auto-tune to be a great R&B singer, and the final two acts, Mayday Parade and Less Then Jake, bringing a taste of the Warped Tour to the HUB lawn, I'm sure everyone who went heard at least one act they enjoyed.

Ten Questions with Tim Haynes

I managed to catch Tim Haynes, Overall Director of Movin' On, during one of his brief breaks on Saturday. He shared with me his experiences with the festival over the years. Read on to find out what he had to say.

Get Him to the Greek at Penn State

Thanks to everyone who voted in Eventful's "Get Him to the Greek" contest, the cast of the upcoming comedy is headed to (slightly off) campus for an advance screening of the film.

The screening will be at 7:30 p.m. April 19 at Premiere Theatre 12 near the Nittany Mall. Unfortunately, the film has to be shown at an official movie theater, but the M Bus leaving Allen Street at 7:01 will make it to the theater on time. The next day Jonah Hill (Superbad, Knocked Up) and Russell Brand (Forgetting Sarah Marshall) will be on the HUB lawn to sign autographs, starting at noon.

Los Campesinos! and Cymbals Eat Guitars to Play at HUB

As if you didn't have enough concerts to distract you from your studies, SOMA is putting on their final show of the year April 26 in Alumni Hall. It looks like a stellar lineup, including rising indie stars Los Campesinos! and Cymbals Eat Guitars, as well as local favorites Kalob Griffin Band and Zak Sobel.

The show will be free to all students, you just have to show your ID at the door. After the jump, check out the video for the new single from Los Campesinos!, "Romance is Boring".

Celebrate State, Yet Another Spring Music Festival

Do you like spending large sums of money? Do you enjoy bringing your favorite bands to campus? Then why don't you try starting a Spring Music Festival at Penn State? You could find yourself with several thousand dollars of UPAC funds and a whole lot of free reign!

The latest addition to the concert menagerie is Celebrate State. According to the Daily Collegian, it is a joint effort of Democracy Matters, Engineers for a Sustainable World, Eco-Action and University Health Services. And guess what? They got over $25,000 dollars for their event.

Penn State’s Strategic Plan and You

Faced with rising costs and shrinking appropriations, Penn State may be undergoing some changes in the near future. Penn State's 2009-10 through 2013-14 Strategic Plan has begun to be implemented, in particular section 2.4, which outlines the process of consolidating or eliminating redundant and ineffective programs throughout the university.

Provost Rod Erickson met with faculty yesterday to discuss the plan and the process of review that is being put in place. Read on for the five steps to the process:
