When Pat Chambers was hired as the head coach of Penn State's men's basketball in June 2011, his deep Philadelphia roots made him a logical choice. He had great success recruiting the City of Brotherly Love as an assistant at Villanova, and on Monday received a commitment from John Johnson, a Philly baller who recently left Pitt's program.
Penn State defeated Pennsylvania University at the Bryce Jordan Center behind a strong 18-point effort from junior guard Jermaine Marshall. Sophomore DJ Newbill added 13 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals in the victory.
The Student Programming Association has been bringing Penn State great entertainment all semester long, and this morning, they announced another can't miss show will be coming to the HUB. Next Friday, December 7, at 10 p.m. in Alumni Hall, mash-up duo The White Panda and Pennsylvania-bred rapper Asher Roth will be performing. The event, sponsored by SPA LateNight, will be free and ticketless. Students with a valid PSU student ID will be admitted on a first come, first serve basis.
Tonight at the Bryce Jordan Center, Penn State will try to do its part to prove that the Big Ten is the best college basketball conference in the country. The Nittany Lions will square off with Boston College in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge, a team they defeated 62-54 on the road last fall. The game begins at 9:15 a.m. and will be broadcast on ESPNU. Students in attendance will receive a free snapback hat.
The most challenging portion of Penn State's non-conference schedule begins today as the Lions face off with the No. 6 ranked North Carolina State Wolfpack in the sixth annual Puerto Rico Tip-Off. The game will be televised live on ESPN2 at 5 p.m. from the Coliseo Ruben Rodriguez in Bayamon, Puerto Rico.
Penn State senior guard Tim Frazier, who already was named preseason All-Big Ten, added another honor as he was named to the prestigious Naismith Award Early Season Watch List by the Atlanta Tipoff Club, placing him among the top players in the nation.
