Yesterday was Sportsmanship Day in the HUB. The Blue and White Society, the WE ARE Campaign, Penn State Homecoming, and the PRIDE. Sportsmanship Initiative teamed up to promote good sportsmanship among students at all Penn State athletic events.
Athletes from various athletic teams were there to encourage students to sign the Sportsmanship Pledge, developed by PRIDE. The day also included appearances by Blue Sapphire PJ Maierhofer and newly-named Blue Band Drum Major Ian Kenney. An excellent day overall.
It has been a great week if you are a fan of theater. Mamma Mia was in town, NRT is presenting "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest", and One Stage Revolution is hosting their first ever One Acts-travaganza! One Stage Revolution, as I have previously mentioned, is a new theater troupe on campus. Their plays deal with many social problems in this world, through a variety of viewpoints. You honestly do not know which character with whom to identify (sort of like Lost!).

Initially reported by KCRG of Cedar Rapids, the Iowa Hawkeyes will play host to Penn State in yet another prime time showdown. The Big Ten opener, which is slated to start at 7:05 p.m. on October 2, 2010, will mark another chapter in this evolving rivalry.
The Nittany Lion-Hawkeye match-up has quickly become a highlight on the Big Ten schedule, so it comes to no surprise that it garnered this slot once again.

Being a Penn State student means that hating cancer is a must, and this weekend, there is another event to show cancer our immense dislike for it! The 11th annual Coaches Vs. Cancer 5K Run/Walk is slated for this Saturday, April 17th at 11:00 AM beginning at the IM Building.
The charity is trying to beat their $11,000 fundraising total from last year. Here are some ways you can help:
1. Sign up for the race here.
2. Go to the HUB on Thursday and look for their table to donate or sign up for the race directly. You can also send your donation in check form to the Student Bookstore in lieu of racing.
3. Eat!! CVC is also holding a spaghetti dinner at the Grace Lutheran Church on the corner of Garner and Beaver on Friday night from 5-8pm. Participants in the race eat free and non-participants only pay $5 for all-you-can-eat pasta.
However you do it, get out there and help this awesome charity. Once again, let cancer Happy Valley is doing all it can to fight it!
Internships are increasingly becoming the most attractive feature of your résumé; they can be a great resource for getting a feel for a job once you graduate so you don't start off completely in the dark. It's like spending a few months in the minor leagues before moving on the majors. Unfortunately, although internships involve relevant work for the employer, the recent overwhelming trend has been toward unpaid internships.
Though there have been more than a few instances of illegally employing unpaid interns, Bob Orndorff, Associate Director of Recruiting and Employer Relations at Penn State's Career Services says that internships, even unpaid, can be a valuable experience, especially counting toward a student's job prospects in the future.

Last night's meeting was by far the most highly attended of the fifth assembly of the University Park Undergraduate Association. They weren't there just to see Robert's Rules of Order in action, that's for sure.
