I'm extremely disappointed and deeply saddened to let you all know that former Pennsylvania senator and Penn state alumnus Rick Santorum pulled out of the race for the Republican presidential nomination on Tuesday. All my life I have been that socially awkward person standing in the back of the room. Now that I am at college I discovered.... well, some things don't change much. My freshman year is almost over at Penn State and I've spent all my time indoors eating Ramen noodles and reading my math textbook.

The day hath arrived. Playoff hockey is upon us. One of the more intriguing series, and certainly the most highly anticipated series by students on campus will be the 4 vs. 5 seed matchup in the Eastern Conference where the Pittsburgh Penguins will take on the Philadelphia Flyers in a best of seven series that begins at 7:30 tonight. This series should have a bit of everything and could be an instant classic. Below, several Onward State staff members provide their insights, thoughts, and snark:

The past year has seen coaching changes within the Penn State athletic department with the hires of Pat Chambers and Bill O'Brien. The next month will allow Penn State fans who live outside of State College to meet O'Brien and other coaches as a Penn State Coaches Caravan hosted by the Penn State Alumni Association and the Nittany Lion Club will make eighteen breakfast, lunch, or dinner stops up and down the east coast.

Last month Governor Tom Corbett signed the new Pennsylvania Voter ID bill into law. The legislation -- an apparent gross infringement on democracy -- raises the barrier to vote by requiring all voters to present ID at polling stations starting this November.
Five months ago, 32 Penn State alumni found themselves making a leadership decision. Today, thousands of alumni are posed with a similar choice. Ryan Beckler weighs in.
