THON supporters have been tweeting up a storm lately nominating the philanthropy for a Shorty Award in the charity category. Currently The Trevor Project is in first place with over 1450 votes, whereas THON is quickly making its way up the list, moving from 13th to 6th place in less than a day.

Now that THON is only 33 days away, events raising money and awareness For The Kids are in full swing! Here at Onward State we are going to try our best to keep you up to date and in the loop with everything so you don't miss out!

In canning weekends past, THON organizations have been prohibited from canning within Pittsburgh city limits. However, this Saturday, January 22, canister solicitations will be permitted in the city.
Pittsburgh law only allows charitable organizations to solicit funds on one day of a calendar year. Saturday marks the only opportunity for canning trips to fundraise within the city for the 2011 year. Check out the full scoop after the jump.

On Thursday night six bands will fight for a chance to perform during THON 2011. The event will be in Alumni Hall in the HUB, and doors will open at 6:30pm. While admittance is free, donations will be accepted at the door.
The winning act will be determined based on judging by THON Entertainment Captains and crowd response. The winning band will join nine other performers THON weekend in the Bryce Jordan Center for a chance to perform in front of thousands of people.
