This weekend, members of student government from the University of Pittsburgh, as well as Temple and Lincoln universities will descend on State College to figure out how to go about lowering tuition. On Saturday, the three universities' representatives will present at this Council Weekend of the Council of Commonwealth Student Governments.
However, PASS is fighting an uphill battle. Not only has Harrisburg been slowly pulling the plug on supporting Penn State and other public colleges and universities, but the big Republican swing this past November completely stacks the deck. That Tom Corbett and the Pennsylvania legislature should decide not to decrease these state appropriations borders on impossible. Oh hey there, tuition hike.
The 2011 Housing Fair will be held on Saturday from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm in Alumni Hall at the HUB-Robeson Center.
The Housing Fair is an opportunity for students to meet with local landlords, property managers, businesses and bank representatives. The event is sponsored by the Student Affairs Office of Off-Campus Living, the Off-Campus Student Union, and the Council of Commonwealth Student Governments.
Who knew Jay Paterno was a fan of The Decemberists... I wonder what other bands he likes.
The new album by @thedecemberists is nothing short of amazing. The King is Dead is among my favorites of the last decade.

President Barack Obama will be speaking at Penn State University Park next Wednesday, the university confirmed today. We'll update this post with information as it comes in.
Walking down the narrow, dimly lit steps of 204 W. College Ave. and continuing through the door at the bottom, you take a minute to look around what is currently a work in progress. A wall across the room – painted so obnoxiously green that you are almost blinded – greets you immediately.
Looking closer still, you see there are dry-erase marker drawings on a white-board-painted table. But what is it? Facts. And figures. And a dream that’s about to become a reality. The dream – and the office space – belongs to New Leaf Initiative, State College’s newest non-profit organization.
Hello faithful readers. We here at Onward State have written about a lot in these past few weeks, from why to join a Sorority to the UPUA's marathon of arguments about the Student Handbook Commission. We've even brought back one of my most beloved features--The Natty Nittany.
But Onward State is a small organization. Stories can fall through the cracks in the bustling metropolis that is State College. That's why we're asking you, the readers, What should Onward State be covering?
