59 Years of Blue and White

You say ‘tomato’, I say ‘tomahto’. You say ‘spring football scrimmage’, well we say ‘Blue and White weekend!’ This tradition, which we have come to know as the overdue midpoint between the next football season and the previous, has ingrained itself into Penn State lore just as much as the grilled sticky and the Creamery. […]

Joe Paterno Spring Press Conference

In his usual reticent manner, Joe Paterno told the media on Wednesday that he did not really have any answers as to how the football team will look in the fall.

Paterno said, "I think this press conference is ridiculous."

He did tell the media almost apologetically that the reason that he could not give any information was because he and his staff still do not know who will fill in at certain positions. In fact, the only positions that seem certain right now are center, place kicker, and running back.

Paterno did give some information out, including that Drew Astorino is banged up and that Brandon Beachum will not do any work this spring due to his knee injury sustained last fall. He also said that he is looking at Chaz Powell on defense and that punting is a high priority this off-season.

"We've got to do better on punt coverage," he said.

2011 Senior Class Gift: Joe Pa The Redeemer

The 2011 Senior Class Gift was announced yesterday by the Senior Class Gift Committee and will feature a gargantuan statue of Joe Paterno overlooking Happy Valley, a la Christ the Redeemer in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. The project will cost roughly $10 million dollars and the committee is asking for only a small donation from students, a mere $1000, or more if possible. The committee is also looking into burning down one of the campus buildings to collect the insurance money to help fund the project. No word yet on which building will be targeted, but the committee said they will give at least five minutes notice before torching the place.

The statue will be made of a combination of different metals and will be placed on the mountainside in a specific position so that at noon on Saturdays, the sun will hit the statue, causing it to gleam brightly. The glare from the statue will be able to be seen from miles away, according to architects. The design also allows for the statue to cast a four-mile-long shadow over town.

More details on this project after the jump.

Penn State Brings Home Academic BCS Victory

hen you sit down to watch Texas and Alabama square off in the BCS National Championship tomorrow, take some solace in the fact that if the BCS was based on academics, neither team would be in the Big Game.

Instead, you'd be cheering on Dear Old State (ranked #1) as they battled against Stanford (ranked #2) in Pasadena. In the New America Foundation academic ratings of the Top 25 ranked teams, Alabama ends up ranked 8th and Texas ranked a lowly 25th.

Happy Birthday JoePa!

The living legend is celebrating his 83rd birthday today, and while Joseph Vincent Paterno may be in Florida at the moment like many other people his age, unlike them, he is still hard at work. The winner of a record 393 DI-A football games, JoePa will be in search of 394 at the Capital One […]

Bowden’s Mess Could Have Been JoePa’s

As many of you now know, a clash of the titans is finally coming to a conclusion. On Dec. 1st, 2009, Bobby Bowden, the legendary Florida State Seminoles coach and only other contender for JoePa’s all-time wins record, stepped down. Or, rather, he was nudged off the step by a football organization that would perhaps […]
