THON 101: Entertainment

When talking about what exactly the Entertainment Committee does for THON, I think it would be easier to list the things that they aren’t helping with.

The Entertainment Committee is one of the committees that those of us who will be away from the BJC this weekend especially owe a lot of gratitude to. All kinds of video, filming, and camera operation are maintained by the Entertainment Committee. Basically, the EC has a hand in everything that is shown on screens during THON. They also help ensure online followers get to see what’s happening at THON.

Besides all that, the EC keeps the energy flowing with all kinds of events and… entertainment. The EC manages all live entertainment, including local talent and the various exciting escapades that happen during THON weekend. The EC takes care of, or assists with, the Pep Rally, Fashion Show, Athlete Hour, and the always outstanding Pre-THON Show. The EC works together with other committees to organize events featuring or profiling THON children, such as the Family Fashion Show or videos that show a day in the life of a THON child.

As for the actual meat and potatoes of THON Weekend itself, the EC plays the double role of amping up the energy of the crowd and working behind the scenes. The EC is dedicated to keeping the floor crowd entertained and promoting interaction between dancers and the crowd. The EC is also responsible for band performances during THON and everything that goes along with that. The EC works as roadies, setting up the stage and making sure everything runs like a well-oiled machine during performances. The EC additionally coordinates security personnel around the stage area. The EC remains busy even post-THON, since they are responsible for packing up the stage after another mind-blowing total is revealed and THON sadly ends.

The 3 Keys to Never Graduating

It is that time of year again. The weather is getting warmer when it feels like it and we switch to shorter pants just as the insects begin to multiply. It is a magical time of year that some of us will see for the last time in State College. For those lucky few, not going to class this week is a sign of maturity. With a college degree ensured, the world awaits you. Unless you’re in the Liberal Arts, of course. Then, your mother’s couch awaits you. However, there exist among us the ones that dare to take it to the next level. The ones that can’t get enough binge drinking, construction, and parking citations. The ones that will never graduate. How do they do it? Very, very smugly. These are the keys to never leaving Penn State.
