Eat Wings For A Cause With Alpha Delta Pi And Alpha Gamma Rho

Alpha Delta Pi and Alpha Gamma Rho are partnering this week to host their annual King of the Wing philanthropy event, a wing-eating contest sponsored by Wings Over. All proceeds will be donated to the Ronald McDonald Charities House and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

The event kicks off at 4 p.m. on March 24 at the AGR house. General admission for the event is $8, and a ticket pays for a plate of wings and a drink.

“This year Alpha Delta Pi hopes to make our King of the Wing event bigger and better than last year,” ADPi Philanthropy Chair Kiarra Powell said.

Those who prefer teamwork can create a squad of four and enter the competition for $50. Teams will compete against each other to eat 10 wings the fastest. After eating their allotted number of wings, competitors have to toss pop tabs equivalent to the number of wings they’ve eaten into a bucket at varying distances before the next teammate can begin eating.

The first teammate needs to eat four barbecue wings, the second teammate will be responsible for eating three spicier wings, the third will have to go even deeper with two hotter wings, and the last teammate will eat one wing covered in the hottest Wings Over sauce available.

The winner of the overall bracket will be crowned King of Wings and will receive 10% of the proceeds for the philanthropy of the team’s choice.

Powell explained the purpose of the winner receiving a percentage of the proceeds for their philanthropy. “This way, we are not only having fun, listening to music, and eating awesome food while enjoying the thrill of a food ‘battle,’ but we’re also giving people the chance to raise money for the philanthropy closest to their hearts,” she said.
