Happy Buns On College Ave. Celebrates THON With Grand Opening

The downtown State College good scene got a bit trendier Saturday when Happy Buns opened, about a month after a sign was first spotted on College Avenue.

The restaurant is located next to Big Bowl Noodle House and under Envy Nightclub. It features funky ice cream-filled donut combinations. Patrons can create their own happy buns by choosing their donuts, ice cream, and toppings.

THON Weekend had been the target opening date for Happy Buns, and late Friday night, the owner and workers were putting the finishing touches on the inside of the restaurant, which has a sleek, laid back feel.

The variation of ice cream flavors at Happy Buns is heavily influenced by pop culture and local favorites. Flavors include “Cuppa Joe Pa,” “Rocky’s Road,” and “Don’t Be Salty.”

Happy Buns is the latest trendy dessert outlet to pop up in State College, following in the footsteps of Momotaro and neighbor and donut competitor Peace, Love, and Little Donuts
