Report: Three-Star Wide Receiver Yazeed Haynes Decommits From Penn State Football

Three-star wide receiver Yazeed Haynes has decommitted from Penn State football’s Class of 2023, according to a report from 247Sports’ Adam Friedman on Monday. Haynes originally committed to Penn State in June after decommitting from Rutgers a month earlier.

Haynes is a top-100 wide receiver in the Class of 2023 and is 247Sports’ No. 10-ranked recruit in the state of Pennsylvania. The Fort Washington native leaves a hole at receiver in the 2023 class, as only one commitment remains at that spot — four-star Ejani Shakir.

After tweeting about receiving an offer from Georgia, speculation has begun circulating about Haynes’ future — specifically whether he’ll follow a similar trajectory to his flip to Penn State. The Georgia offer comes a month after Haynes’ commitment to the Nittany Lions, just as Penn State’s offer came a month after Haynes’ commitment to Rutgers.

If he were to select Georgia, Haynes would become the second member of the Nittany Lions’ 2023 class to do so. Three-star offensive lineman Joshua Miller flipped to Georgia back in June.

Penn State has been in the trenches with the SEC over the course of this entire recruiting cycle. Recently, the Nittany Lions lost four-star quarterback Marcus Stokes when he flipped his commitment to Florida on June 7. The following day, James Franklin and his squad responded with a successful flip of four-star defensive back Elliot Washington from Alabama.

With Haynes’ reported departure, the Nittany Lions’ Class of 2023 now ranks No. 6 in the nation, falling behind Clemson, according to 247Sports. It remains the Big Ten’s second-best class, behind Ohio State.
