Gameday Coverage: No. 14 Penn State vs. Central Michigan

Penn State will hit the gridiron for the fourth consecutive week, this time against Central Michigan at Beaver Stadium.

The Nittany Lions are coming off a massive 41-12 victory over Auburn last week at Jordan-Hare Stadium and are a perfect 3-0 heading into the matchup. On the other hand, the Chippewas are only 1-2 on the season but won their last game against Bucknell 41-0.

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the first meeting between the two teams since 2005.

Television

Saturday’s matchup will kick off at noon on the Big Ten Network. Mark Followill and Matt Millen will be on the call, while former Penn State signal-caller Matt McGloin will provide updates from the sidelines.

Radio

Penn State Sports Network — Steve Jones and Jack Ham
Local: 99.5 & 103.7 FM/1450 AM, Sirius/XM/Internet: 957/195/982

Weather

Fall will be in the air during today’s game. Temperatures at kickoff will start at 58 degrees and rise to 65 by the end of the game, according to AccuWeather. Expect a zero percent chance of precipitation and minimal winds. Football weather is back, baby.

Last Meeting

The two teams last met on September 17, 2005, when the Nittany Lions curb-stomped the Chippewas 40-3 at Beaver Stadium. Central Michigan quarterback Kent Smith was held to just 143 passing yards, while Michael Robinson completed 14-of-23 passes for 274 and three touchdowns.

Injuries/Suspensions

Penn State defensive end Zuriah Fisher is out for the season with an undisclosed injury. James Franklin mentioned that he doesn’t know if Keyvone Lee will make it back in time for the game today after injuring what looked like his knee against Auburn last week.

As for the Chippewas, Dallas Dixon, the team’s second-leading receiver in 2021, is out for the season with a shoulder injury. Carlos Carriere is behind him on the depth chart, but he is day-to-day this week after having his wisdom teeth removed this week. It’s also unclear if defensive lineman LaQuan Johnson will be available for Central Michigan this weekend, as he’s been unavailable so far this season due to an undisclosed injury.

Betting Lines

Penn State is currently a 27.5-favorite on FanDuel Sportsbook. The over/under is set at 61.5 points.
