Gameday Coverage: No. 16 Penn State vs. Minnesota

The White Out is finally here, folks.

Penn State will face off against Minnesota in Beaver Stadium Saturday night for its annual White Out game.

The Nittany Lions return home after a demoralizing 41-17 loss to Michigan in Ann Arbor last Saturday. The Wolverines rushed for 418 yards on the ground en route to their victory. Minnesota comes into the game with a 4-2 record fresh off a loss against 26-14 loss to Illinois in Champaign.

So, here’s everything you need to know about Penn State’s White Out matchup with Minnesota.

Saturday’s matchup will kick off at noon on FOX. Joe Tessitore and Greg McElroy will be on the call, while Katie George provides updates from the sidelines.

Weather

It’s gonna be a perfect day in Happy Valley, folks.

Temperatures during the day will get up to 68 degrees around 4 p.m. with minimal wind, according to AccuWeather. Then, it will get down to 62 degrees around kickoff, continuing to drop off until temperatures reach 52 degrees toward the end of the game.

Last Meeting

No. 4 Penn State got its College Football Playoff hopes crushed in a 31-26 loss to No. 17 Minnesota in TCF Bank Stadium back in November 2019. Running back Journey Brown rushed for 124 yards and two touchdowns, while Pat Freiermuth had a career-high 101 receiving yards on seven catches.

The Golden Gophers’ wide receivers tore up Penn State’s secondary, as Tanner Morgan completed 18-of-20 passes for 339 yards and three touchdowns. Rashod Bateman had a career performance with seven catches for 203 yards and a touchdown.

Injuries/Suspensions

Penn State defensive end Zuriah Fisher is out for the season with an undisclosed injury. Sean Clifford’s status for the game remains unknown after coming out of the Michigan game with an undisclosed injury. Landon Tengwall’s status also remains unknown after going down in pregame warmups before last week’s game.

As for Minnesota, quarterback Tanner Morgan was carted off the field with a head injury in the team’s loss to Illinois last week. P.J. Fleck told the media that he was doing “very well” on Monday. He hasn’t been officially ruled out of the game, but it’s safe to assume he won’t play.

Betting Lines

Penn State is currently a 5.5-point favorite on FanDuel Sportsbook. The over/under is set at 43.5 points.
