Five Nittany Lions On Active XFL Rosters Ahead Of 2023 Season

The XFL is back, folks.

After filing for bankruptcy amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the XFL will make its return on Saturday, February 18.

Following a lengthy draft back in November, many Penn Staters were selected to join one of eight new teams gearing up to play this season after rebuilding from scratch. Here’s a look at which Nittany Lions are on XFL rosters ahead of the 2023 season.

Shareef Miller, Seattle Sea Dragons

A former fourth-round pick by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2019 NFL Draft, Shareef Miller was a notable part of the defensive line during his time at Penn State. While his NFL career was short-lived, Miller has found a new home in Seattle.

Instead of being a part of the defensive front, Miller will be switching positions to play safety for the Sea Dragons.

Michal Menet, Seattle Sea Dragons

Joining Miller in Seattle is former Penn State center Michal Menet.

Menet was a seventh-round pick by the Arizona Cardinals in the 2021 NFL Draft. He spent the last two seasons on and off the Cardinals’ and Green Bay Packers’ practice squads. Now, Menet will have the chance to show what he can do in Seattle

John Lovett, Vegas Vipers

Former Baylor transfer John Lovett was the first Nittany Lion drafted in the XFL Draft, being taken off the board in the second round. Lovett signed with the Carolina Panthers as an undrafted free agent following his collegiate career, where he was on and off its practice squad for most of the season.

Lovett joins the Vegas Vipers, who are by Pro Football Hall of Fame corner and head coach Rod Woodson.

Robert Windsor, Vegas Vipers

After a brief retirement from football due to health concerns, Robert Windsor will join Lovett in Vegas for the 2023 season.

Windsor was a sixth-round pick for the Indianapolis Colts in the 2020 NFL Draft and a second-team All-Big Ten player as a senior at Penn State.

Steven Gonzalez, St. Louis BattleHawks

During his time at Penn State, Steven Gonzalez was a second-team All-Big Ten offensive lineman. As an undrafted free agent in the NFL, Gonzalez spent time with the Arizona Cardinals and Buffalo Bills. In spring 2020, Gonzalez participated in the COVID-shortened season of the XFL. Now, he should have the chance to finish out a full season.

*Ellis Brooks, DC Defenders

Former Penn State linebacker Ellis Brooks is currently on the Reserve List for the DC Defenders, meaning he’s not on the active roster ahead of the 2023 season.
