[Photo Story] Pattee & Paterno Libraries After Dark

As the semester begins to wind down, crunch time is nearly upon us, folks.

While some will choose to study in their rooms, others will seek refuge in the Pattee and Paterno Libraries. The same place that can be bustling during the day takes on a very different vibe after dark.

When Starbucks closes and the casuals head home, the true work begins. This special time after dark and before closing is where you’ll find the real atmosphere of the library taking its form.

With the narrow hallways in the stacks, subtle hum of the fluorescent lights, and the gentle tapping of keys hard at work, it’s truly a special place to lock in and get it done. In the spirit of immortalizing this special twilight period, we sent our photographers to capture the magic in the library after dark.

As you round the corner to the library, you’re immediately struck with the grand lighting as it draws you in like a moth to a lamp.

Once the crowds clear, the bottom floor of the library is especially quiet and comforting.

One particularly quiet place, especially at this hour, is the stacks. While it can be a little creepy to venture in late at night, its gentle hum and tranquility are well worth it.

The desks at the end of the long passes of books are a popular spot during the day, but at night, they are about as secluded and peaceful as you can get.

If the emptiness of the stacks isn’t your vibe, we recommend checking out the “Harry Potter” room. No matter the hour you’re guaranteed to find some other people there, and at least someone taking a nap.

Right across the hall, you can find some decent spots as well if you’re more of a fan of the white noise from the overhead lights.

We hope you’ve enjoyed this unique view of the library after dark and it inspires you to further explore the tranquility it has to offer.
