Penn State Hoops Alumni Team Cinderella Run Ends In ‘The Basketball Tournament’ Quarterfinals

The Sam Sessoms dominance was nice while it lasted, folks.

The Happy Valley Hoopers, a Penn State men’s basketball alumni team competing for $1,000,000 in The Basketball Tournament, has been eliminated from the competition. The group lost to Eberlein Drive 85-71 in the quarterfinals.

The Hoopers entered the tournament as one of the lower seeds in the Pittsburgh Regional but surprised many when they made it all the way to the quarterfinals. They knocked off a UConn alumni team, a team from DuBois, and the Pitt alumni team in Pitt’s basketball arena.

While they didn’t win any of the winner-take-all $1,000,000 prize money, the Hoopers performed significantly better in this year’s competition than in previous editions. With general manager, almost-Philadelphia Eagles tight end, and Penn State cult hero John Harrar at the helm, the Hoopers are nearly certain to take another swing at the tournament in a year.
