[Photo Story] A Walk Around The Pennsylvania Military Museum

Tucked away just a few minutes’ drive from downtown State College, the Pennsylvania Military Museum offers a unique blend of history, outdoor recreation, and quiet reflection. Whether you’re looking for a scenic spot to run, a place to explore Pennsylvania’s military past, or simply a peaceful afternoon away from campus, this museum has something for everyone.

With its open fields, towering monuments, and immersive exhibits, it’s a space where visitors can honor those who served while also enjoying the beauty of the surrounding landscape.

For students and locals alike, the museum is a hidden gem in the State College area. You can stroll through outdoor displays featuring tanks, artillery, and memorials or dive deeper into Pennsylvania’s role in conflicts from the Revolutionary War to modern-day military efforts. On any given day, you’ll find history buffs wandering the grounds, families exploring the exhibits, and runners weaving through the well-maintained trails.

Whether you’re here to learn, reflect, or just find a new favorite study spot, the Pennsylvania Military Museum is a must-visit destination.

Upon arrival at the museum, you are greeted with large parking lots and two massive artillery guns.

Flanking the parking lot are numerous other decommissioned weapons systems, including historic tanks and air defenses.

No doubt your car feels pretty safe here.

Strolling through the grounds, there are plenty of monuments, maps, and informationals to peruse at your own leisure.

The grounds feature a large open field, perfect for a picnic or game of catch. Additionally, the whole property is surrounded by a paved walkway, which is great for runners and walkers.

Plenty of benches line the walkway to ensure adequate places to reflect.

The property features a stream that provides calming water sounds while you enjoy time learning about history and those who played a part in it.

Undeniable is the significance that countless Pennsylvanians gave their lives in service to their country, and these memorials provide an excellent place to remember that.

The inside of the museum is closed for renovations, but guests are encouraged to come enjoy the grounds at their leisure. More information can be found on the museum’s website.
