Staff Picks: Pop-Up Shops We Want To See At Penn State
With Pepsi, Uber, and Stanley grabbing attention on campus through their recent pop-up shop appearances, Penn State students have been spoiled with free merch and exclusive deals in the last few weeks.
Located at prime spots in front of the old Palmer Museum of Art and Forum Building, the pop-ups have added buzz and excitement to campus this semester.
Naturally, our staff brainstormed a few more brands we’d love to see bring their own excitement and offerings to campus. From clothing brands to tech companies, here’s our wishlist for the next round of pop-ups we hope land in Happy Valley.
Evan Halfen: Wawa
Given State College is eventually going to be gifted with its very own Wawa in the coming years, having a pop-up version would satisfy almost every student. Imagine you’re walking to class and there’s a Penn State Hoagie Fest right before your eyes. From its hoagies to iced teas to baked goods, Wawa has so much to offer that would give some students a taste of home. This would be perfect for students looking for a quick bite in between classes and will help get the community hyped for Wawa’s upcoming, permanent arrival. Besides, I don’t think anyone would turn down free or discounted Wawa food and merch (unless they’re a Sheetz stan).
Ally Eaton: Poppi
I am a huge Poppi soda fan for both the health benefits and the taste! It’s a great drink for college students to incorporate into their lifestyle. There are already at least two Poppi ambassadors on campus, creating the perfect foundation for a pop-up! A lot of students would go crazy for this, and it would also be a more affordable pop-up option. Poppi would bring the vibes and high energy, exactly what a pop-up should be!
Michael Siroty: Dollar Tree
We all love cheap things, don’t we? I think I speak for most college students when I say having a Dollar Tree pop-up outside Forum would solve a lot of issues. Need toilet paper on the way to your apartment from class? There you go. Want a bag of candy after you ace an exam? Boom. Forgot a birthday card for your friend? Don’t worry. Having a Dollar Tree pop-up would be a versatile one at Penn State, and it’s time to make it happen.
Hailey Stutzman: Lululemon
Both girls and guys love Lululemon clothing. This would be a huge event and if they had discounted products, I’d imagine the line would be longer than the Stanley and Uber One lines. Just look at when Family Clothesline partnered with Lululemon two years ago… The line was hours long.
Mikey DeAngelis: TaylorMade Golf
It would be cool to have TaylorMade Golf set up a pop-up stand on campus. The stand could have a fake putting green and a driving simulator to let students test out TaylorMade clubs and take out their academic stress on a golf ball. It’s unlikely the stand would actually sell clubs to broke college students, but it would create a strong brand image in students’ minds to cycle back to when they can afford new clubs.
Maya Thiruselvam: Apple
Not only do most kids on campus have some form of an Apple product, but college kids would go absolutely nuts for free Apple merch. Personally, I’d even take a free Apple T-shirt and pretend I’m a Genius Bar employee the next time I go a Best Buy. Plus, kids would be lining up for miles to get their hands on some Penn State-branded Apple products.
Joe Lister: Blue & White Bottle Shop
Even if this wasn’t illegal, this would still be a terrible suggestion. I don’t care.
Imagine you’re struggling with doing hours of work at the library and just need a way to unwind. if Penn State was cool, you’d be able to grab your favorite beer down the street. If your friends need a quick drink, too, they’ll owe you a favor when you return with a six-pack. A bottle shop pop-up would save a couple of GPAs.
