[Photo Story] Penn State Hosts Peace March Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

State College and Penn State community members came together on Friday, January 17, to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through the annual “Celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Peace March.”

Under the theme of unity and progress, participants marched through the heart of town and campus, demonstrating a shared commitment to racial equity and social justice. The event fostered a sense of reflection and inspiration, bringing together students, faculty, and residents to embody King’s vision of equality and peace.

Gary Abdullah from the State College Racial Equity Advisory Board kicked off the event, urging attendees to continue advancing the fight for justice. State College Mayor Ezra Nanes followed with his remarks, emphasizing the importance of building a community rooted in inclusion and mutual respect. With these uplifting messages setting the tone, the march commenced, weaving through campus streets and culminating at the HUB.

Nanes delivered words affirming his commitment to creating a more diverse and equitable borough and community.

Members of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity lead the march through town.

The march concluded at Heritage Hall in the HUB, where participants mixed and mingled.
