Staff Picks: Who Should Perform At THON 2025?

The wait is over, folks. THON Weekend 2025 is officially here!
The most exciting, anticipated weekend of the year is here, and it’s time to make predictions. Every year, a national celebrity performer takes the stage to dazzle students, families, and dancers alike. Last year, it was WALK THE MOON that put on an electrifying show in the Bryce Jordan Center.
For that reason, our staff made predictions on who they would like to see headline the national act this year.
Michael Siroty: Gavin DeGraw
I’ve seen Gavin DeGraw’s name come up in some recent music festival lineups, and I think he’d be a great national performer at THON. The vibes are high with DeGraw’s music, with popular songs like “Not Over You,” “Best I Ever Had,” and “She Sets The City On Fire.” These songs would get the dancers fired up for the rest of their time in the Bryce Jordan Center, so I think he’s the perfect person for the gig. See you on the diamond stage, Gavin.
Melanie Thalhimer: James Bay
This might be a hot take, but I think British pop star James Bay should be the surprise THON musical guest this year. There seems to be a trend at THON that the performer each year had either one major hit and or year of popularity, which brings Bay to the table.
Imagine, quirky Bay rallying the entire BJC to sing along to his iconic 2014 hit “Hold Back the River.” I can already picture the synchronized clapping during the chorus!
Abby Neely: Jonas Brothers
Unless you have been living under a rock, you are probably aware that the Jonas Brothers have some history with Penn State. Joe even performed at THON once before with his other band, DNCE. I think it is only right that Joe returns to THON, but this time with his brothers. All of their previous appearances here at Penn State have caused quite a commotion and this would be no different. Even if you are not a fan of the Jonas Brothers, at least one or two of their songs would be recognizable. Their upbeat and energetic music style would simply be an impeccable fit at THON and provide a great burst of energy to start the weekend off right.
Jayla Nartatez: Benson Boone
I think Benson Boone should perform this year at THON because he would bring exciting energy. Benson is known for his high-energy performances that contain back flips, front flips, and obviously his hit music. I think he would deliver an unforgettable performance that everyone can enjoy and would help to rejuvenate the dancers. THON is full of “Beautiful Things” as people come together and raise money for childhood cancer.
Keeley Lamm: Don Diablo
My fingers are crossed that this year’s national performance is Don Diablo. My token “I’m locked in at THON” song is the “Good Grief” remix by Bastille, and I would lose my mind if I heard Don Diablo spin that song in the Bryce Jordan Center. I probably listened to it 500 times during THON 2024, and I can even report it showed up in the top five of my Spotify Wrapped.
I mean, after all, European DJs love Penn State. Just ask everyone’s favorite German DJ Zombie Nation. Don Diablo, come remix some tunes For The Kids in Happy Valley!
Michael Zeno: The Costco Guys (& the Rizzler)
Ok, hear me out.
Are they topping the charts? No
Are they performing in front of sellout crowds? No
Would it get a great crowd reaction? Yes
Imagine, if you will, the entirety of the BJC jamming out to “We Bring The Boom”. The Rizzler gets a massive reaction everywhere he goes, and he would be a hit among the crowd. Donating money to THON gets five big booms. The dancers can be doing their iconic dance. Just think of the media coverage!
Cadyn Gill: PinkPantheress
I would love to see PinkPantheress perform for the National Act at THON. Her pop-based catalog of songs is extremely danceable and she has a handful of well-known hits such as “that boys a liar”, “pain” and “turn it up” that would get the BJC moving and grooving.
Darrius Hamilton: Shaboozey
He’s a country and rap artist, a lot of people say he’s overrated but that’s a false statement.
His music can be really hype and it’ll keep everybody awake. Shaboozey also relates to younger people, which will appeal to the THON audience in the Bryce Jordan Center. He’s a unique act because he can switch from rock-rap to country. Also, he’s a record-breaking artist and since he’s up and coming, it’ll be good to have someone who’s trending.
Maya Thiruselvam: Briston Maroney
Briston Maroney isn’t the biggest celebrity, but he’s arguably one of the best performers I’ve seen live. Not only does he have some songs that would liven up the crowd, but he seems like a nice enough guy to agree and perform. I also think he has enough kid-friendly songs that would be good for a mixed audience without sounding like a Disney Channel commercial.
Hannah Fuller: Kendrick Lamar
Kendrick Lamar should be the national act this year. After his breathtaking Super Bowl performance, Kendrick has proven to be an astounding performer. He would put on a great show and prove that other schools are not like us.
Aidan Conrad: Zach Top
These people need to learn some good ole country music.
Nolan Wick: The Weeknd
Abel Tesfaye, you’re coming to Happy Valley. The Weeknd has a solid new album, plus countless hits to satisfy everyone in attendance. Why not make a pit stop at THON to prep for an upcoming tour?
Joe Lister: Onward State
We’re not all that good, but we’d have fun!
