[Photo Story] Penn State Wrestling Wins Big Ten Championships

Over the weekend, Penn State wrestling competed at the Big Ten Championships in Chicago, Illinois, where the Nittany Lions came out on top, winning their ninth Big Ten title.

Our photographers were at Northwestern to capture the final moments of what was another memorable weekend for Penn State fans. Check out some of our favorite photos.

The Big Ten Championships kicked off in Evanston, and on Sunday, our photographers were there for the start of session IV: the finals.

Six Penn Staters — Luke Lilledahl, Levi Haines, Carter Starocci, Greg Kerkvliet, Mitchell Mesenbrink, and Tyler Kasak — competed in the finals.

Starting off the finals strong, Lilledahl became the champion of the 125-pound class with a 4-3 win over Nebraska’s Caleb Smith.

Kasak took down Brandon Cannon of Ohio State to win the 157-pound championship.

Mesenbrink won 4-1 in the 165-pound class.

In the 174-pound class, Haines defeated Lenny Pinto of Nebraska 12-1.

Carter Starocci defeated Max McEnelly of Minnesota at 184 pounds.

Kerkvliet was up last. In the heavyweight weight class, Kerkvliet fell short to the No. 1 seed 10-3.

The Nittany Lions claimed the Big Ten title once again with a team score of 181.5. They’ll next head to Philadelphia for the NCAA Championships.
