An Ode To The Sun

It’s finally sunny again at Penn State.

As I’m writing this, I’m sitting on HUB Lawn trying to soak in all the sun I can before it inevitably becomes chilly again in a couple of days. As the vitamin D is seeping into my skin, I can feel my happiness coming back.

As a freshman from Miami, this winter has been a brutal one. I never thought I’d be so happy for 55º weather, as a year ago, this weather would have me bundled up.

Through the bitter cold winter, the light at the end of the tunnel was that there would be a sunny day again. There’s nothing like the first sunny day to welcome us back after spring break.

The sun’s presence again is more than a change from winter to spring — it’s a revival of campus. The sun brings out people from all across campus from their winter caves to socialize and sunbathe on HUB Lawn. From the volleyball and Spikeball players to those relaxing in their hammocks or lying on the grass, there’s nowhere better.

A highlight of my HUB Lawn sunbathing is watching this one guy skateboard up around HUB Lawn continuously for approximately two hours. One may just say these spring sunny days are the best of the year.

With each day the sun comes up, it lingers a little longer, making the winter gray skies just a memory until next year. May the sun keep shining, providing us with happiness and the will to get through the murky days.
