Penn State Suspends Sigma Pi Following Hazing And Misconduct Reports

Penn State has placed the Sigma Pi fraternity on an indefinite suspension following a misconduct and hazing investigation, effective July 17.
An investigation was launched in March after Penn State received multiple reports of alleged physical and mental abuse, forced alcohol and substance consumption, forced physical activity, and forced servitude.
The fraternity was given the opportunity for remediation during proceedings, but it decided to withdraw from university recognition during initial conversations. Penn State still determined an official suspension was warranted, despite disaffiliation, because of the serious nature and lack of engagement.
Sigma Pi will now lose all rights and privileges of a recognized student organization, including university services, support, facilities, and events for at least four years.
The fraternity continues to operate as an unrecognized organization off campus, with the support of its international organization. The university is encouraging students and the community to avoid engagement due to continuing concerns about high-risk behavior and a lack of oversight.
