Penn Steaks To Open Downtown August 28

A new cheesesteak stop is coming to State College.

Penn Steaks is set to open on Thursday, August 28, in downtown State College at 119 S. Pugh St.

The restaurant was formerly Campus Steaks and is reopening under new ownership after the previous owner, Joe Ford, was sentenced to prison for fraud.

It will offer a menu of ribeye and chicken cheesesteaks, freshly baked hoagie rolls, and classic sides, with more offerings coming soon. Penn Steaks is owned by five individuals, all with ties to Penn State and State College.

“We’re not just opening a cheesesteak shop — we’re building a place that reflects the spirit and tradition of Penn State,” said owner Brad Dillman in a release. “There’s a sense of belonging here — like Cheers, but for a college town. Our goal is to serve more than food; we want to offer connection and comfort in every visit.”

Penn Steaks will be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday through Wednesday, 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. It will offer delivery, catering, and tailgate packages just in time for gamedays.

The grand opening will take place with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on August 28 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., featuring samples and giveaways.
