Penn State Football Remains As Heavy Favorite Over Nevada

Beaver Stadium Saturdays are one day away, folks.

Penn State football will kick off its 2025 campaign against the Nevada Wolf Pack on Saturday, August 30. The matchup is the start of a four-game home stand for the blue and white that will commence on Saturday and culminate with the highly anticipated White Out against Oregon on September 27.

The opening line against Nevada has been set at -43.5 points in the Nittany Lions’ favor, with the over/under listed at 56.5 points, according to DraftKings. It’s worth noting that the sportsbook is not currently accepting any bets on the game’s money line or outright winner.

While Penn State is expected to put up a lot of points, Nevada’s offense will be the reason the under hits on Saturday. Nevada is only returning 35% of its production from last season as it had to replace its quarterback, three offensive line starters, top three running backs, and top two wide receivers.

With Jim Knowles now as Penn State’s defensive coordinator for a defense that let in 16.5 points on average a season ago, this is a disaster waiting to happen for the Wolf Pack. On top of that, the under hit in six of Penn State’s last eight home games.

Last season, Penn State went 8-8 against the spread and 7-9 against the over/under. It went 12-0 last season as a favorite. As for Nevada, it went 6-6-1 against the spread and 6-7 against the over/under despite its 3-10 record last season. The Wolf Pack were underdogs in 11 of their 13 games last season and went 2-9.

Penn State is 20-5 outright in its last 25 games at home and the total has gone under in six of its last eight home games, according to OddsShark.

Heading into the 2025 season, the Nittany Lions are among the favorites to win the national championship at +700, which are the third-shortest odds behind Ohio State +600 and Texas +550.
