Gameday Observations: FIU

Another week in Beaver Stadium has passed.

Penn State football dominated FIU 34-0 after a shaky first half of only 10 points. We took a look around the stadium during the game and noticed some things besides just the players on the field.

New Fast Pass Entry Causes More Confusion

Penn State Athletics announced a new way to get through Gate A on Thursday, the “Fast Pass” student entry. Student section wristbands were available to pick up on Friday, with students still needing to scan their tickets. But, there were different lines for these students, causing confusion and them being kicked out of the normal lines and having to start at the back again.

And while each line had a color wristband displayed, there were some lanes closed and only one for the white wristband, causing a 30-minute wait in that one, while others got through in 2 minutes. Security tried to move students out of the white line, but were met with many arguments from those trying to meet their friends inside.

At least folks weren’t waiting over an hour per lane to get through Gate A like last Saturday.

THON-Themed S-Zone Always Rocks

Little things count when you’re watching Penn State play a less-than-thrilling opponent. And for FIU, it was the S-Zone’s THON display. The yellow THON ribbon stood out all game long, and the players donned THON helmets on their helmets.

We dance in 165, folks!

Gloomy Weather In Happy Valley

Saturday brought some gloom to Happy Valley, with rain, clouds, and some chilly weather in the morning before the noon kickoff. By the time the game started, the rain was mostly done, but you could still see the remnants in the rainy day outfits filling the stadium and all the wet seats.

Small Student Section

Many students viewed this game as a throwaway one, despite Penn State’s struggles in the first half. The student section reflected this, with lots of empty seats and a mass exodus throughout the second half. Penn State students are taking these non-conference games for granted, folks.
