Penn State Alum Dan Bongino To Step Down As FBI Deputy Director

Penn State alum Dan Bongino will leave his role as the FBI’s deputy director in January, he announced Wednesday on X.

He was appointed to the role by President Trump in February, serving as second-in-command to Director Kash Patel, who recently stopped by the Bryce Jordan Center.

Bongino graduated from Queens College with a psychology degree before pursuing an MBA from Penn State, graduating in 2010. He was considered a surprise pick for the role because he had no prior experience with the agency.

He began his career in the New York City Police Department as an officer from 1995 to 1999, before serving as a Secret Service agent from 1999 to 2011. He ran for Congress as a Republican on three occasions, but was unsuccessful.

Bongino created his podcast and radio show, “The Dan Bongino Show,” in 2017, producing over 600 episodes and amassing over two-and-a-half million followers on Instagram. He used his platform to regularly attack FBI leadership and promote conspiracy theories.

He suggested that he will now return to his role as a podcaster and social media personality.
