Penn State Field Hockey Hires Hannah Prince As Next Head Coach

A new era for Penn State field hockey has begun in Happy Valley.

Penn State has hired Hannah Prince to be the field hockey program’s next head coach, it was announced on Tuesday.

“We are grateful and excited to welcome Hannah Prince to Happy Valley as the leader of our field hockey program,” Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Dr. Patrick Kraft said in a press release. “Hannah has already achieved national success and has emerged as one of the bright young coaching stars in collegiate field hockey.”

Prince graduated from UMass in 2014 and has most recently been the head coach at St. Joseph’s since 2022. The Gorham, Maine, was a four-year starter, three-time Atlantic 10 champion, and reached the NCAA quarterfinals with the Minutewomen in 2013 as a student athlete.

Prince led the Hawks to four straight Atlantic 10 tournament championships and led St. Joseph’s to its highest-ever ranking in program history. She led the Hawks to four-straight NCAA Tournaments, including a 2024 National Championship game appearance.

Before her time at St. Joseph’s, Prince served as associate head coach at Louisville, where she helped lead the Cardinals to a pair of NCAA tournament appearances.

Penn State fired former head coach Lisa Bervinchak Love on December 15th and has now found its next head coach less than a month later. Prince now takes over a program looking to get back to national relevance.
