Special Olympics PA To Host Annual Paterno Family Beaver Stadium Run

The 17th annual Paterno Family Beaver Stadium Run is set to return to Penn State on Sunday, April 26, bringing thousands of runners, walkers, families, and Special Olympics supporters back to campus for one of the community’s favorite spring traditions.

More than 2,500 participants are expected for this year’s event, presented by Sheetz and benefiting Special Olympics Pennsylvania (SOPA). The day begins with registration at 7:30 a.m. at Medlar Field before opening ceremonies kick off at 10:15 a.m. The 5K run and walk will start at 11 a.m., followed by the Mount Nittany Health 2‑mile Family Fun Walk at 11:10 a.m. The course will close at noon, with awards scheduled for 12:15 p.m.

Runners and walkers of all ages will make their way through Penn State’s campus before entering Beaver Stadium and finishing at the 50‑yard line. Penn State head football coach Matt Campbell, the Paterno family, Mount Nittany Health, and Sheetz are among the event’s featured supporters and are expected to be in attendance.

Proceeds from the run directly support the nearly 2,000 athletes who will compete in the 2026 Special Olympics Pennsylvania Summer Games, held at Penn State in June. Funds raised help cover all costs for athletes, allowing them to participate free of charge. In addition to competition across eight sports, athletes will have access to on‑site health screenings and other support services.

Major sponsors for the 2026 run include Mount Nittany Health, PAM Health, and the Misitano family, alongside longtime presenting sponsor Sheetz and the Paterno family. Since its launch in 2010, the event has raised more than $4 million for Special Olympics Pennsylvania.

Registration and additional event details are available here.

Student tickets are available for $20, Children for $10, and all others for $40.
