Michigan State Infielder Ryan McKay Transfers To Penn State Baseball

Michigan State infielder Ryan McKay is transferring to Penn State baseball, he announced on social media on Monday. He has one year of eligibility remaining.
McKay originally committed to Michigan State out of Orchard Lake St. Mary’s Prep School in Clarkston, Michigan, as the No. 19 player in the state in the Class of 2023, according to Perfect Game. He won the starting second base job right away, playing 46 games as a true freshman in 2024.
After starting out as a high-average, low-strikeout player, he evolved to become one of the best in the Big Ten in 2025, slashing .319/.421/.495 in 54 games with five home runs, 28 RBIs, 26 extra-base hits, and 11 stolen bases. His tremendous season, in which he also went 9-for-14 with 3 RBIs in a three-game series in State College in March, resulted in him being named to Second-Team All-Big Ten.
After a strong summer in the Cape Cod Baseball League, he returned for his junior year with MLB Draft hype, but the lefty uncharacteristically struggled, hitting a career-low .231 with a .641 OPS in 56 games in a disappointing year for both him and the Spartans, entering the transfer portal on June 1.
With incumbent second baseman Jayden Davis graduating, McKay will have a clear path to playing time at the position, where he’ll look to rebuild his pro stock on the other side of the conference.
