The Final Fundraising Push for THON 2011

Although there are only eight days until THON 2011, there are still plenty of ways your organization can reach its fundraising goals. Find out what you need to know about the final canning weekend, what THON-line is and also how it works as well as more information about both the THON raffle and THON blood drives, after the jump.

Group Texting, Giant Headache

With new texting programs like GroupMe, you can have conversations that resemble AOL chatrooms straight from your cell phone. GroupMe is modeled after Blackberry "groups" and is available to anyone, not just people with smart phones. In theory it sounds like a great way to communicate with people you're working with in your classes, members of your organization's executive boards, or even large committees. But what looks great on paper is a terrible idea in real life. Throw fifteen or so people into one giant texting group and now your phone is being spammed with Texts From Last Night and drama over who hooked up with who at this week's social.

“Five OUTS” for Community Facing an On-Campus Active Shooter

Penn State Human Resource Development Center (HRDC), along with University Police and the Penn State Risk Management Office, has created a one-hour-long program that provides people with instructions and options in case an active shooter was to ever open fire on campus.

This video, created by Special Events Captain DJ Broccoli, was first shown Thursday night at the Road to THON Celebration and showcases events such as Harvest Day, THON Dodgeball, the THON 5K and Family Carnival. Enjoy - we'll see you in the BJC on February 18.

Rocket Man Coming to PSU

The Bryce Jordan Center is really trying to please the eclectic music tastes of the State College community. From tattooed rap artists to knighted piano players, Penn State students have an incredible line-up of concerts to look forward to this semester... and it's only January.

Elton John and his band are slated to perform their "Greatest Hits Live" concert on Sunday March 27, featuring some of Elton's best songs from his five-decade career.

Who’s Who: The Chapters Behind Their Letters

Joining a sorority was never on my list of things to do. The intensity of formal recruitment intimidated me and the number of chapters on campus was terrifying. Three years later, I can't imagine life without my sorority. Hopefully I can encourage you to check out some of the smaller, lesser known Greek organizations on campus - one of which I'm actually a sister of.
