Penn State Student Shot Dead in Philadelphia

A Penn State Abington student was shot dead in Philadelphia late Monday afternoon nearby Temple University, according to a report from NBC Philadelphia.

Mohan Varughese was sitting on the stoop of his girlfriend's house around 5:00 p.m. yesterday when a man walked up and asked for keys to the student's motorcycle. When Varughese refused, he was shot three times in the chest and face.

Marcellus Shale Fracking Expert to Speak at HUB

Cornell professor Dr. Anthony Ingraffea will speak in the HUB auditorium tomorrow night at 7:00 pm to discuss some myths and realities concerning the development of the Marcellus Shale.

Ingraffea is an expert on the subject. His research concentrates on computer simulation and physical testing of complex fracturing processes, according to his bio on Cornell's website, and he has been recognized by a number of industry and academic groups focused on the field.

The event is sponsored by the Sierra Club Moshannon Group and Penn State EcoAction.

‘This American Life’ Covers PSU Osama Celebration

Penn State's celebration in Beaver Canyon following President Barack Obama's announcement that Osama bin Laden had been killed by US forces was featured in this week's episode of This American Life, which was unusual for its focus on events that had occurred in the 7 days before it aired.

Core Council Review: The College of the Liberal Arts

We received a copy of the Core Council's review of the College of the Liberal Arts and have posted it below for review. The Core Council is Penn State's strategic review committee, headed by Provost Rod Erickson, that has been tasked with identifying about $10 million in annual savings.
