Is there any style of food better represented in State College than Chinese? Off hand, I can count more than a half-dozen Asian restaurants, and that's not including the two new ones that opened just in time to welcome students back for the start of the new semester. But while Penn Staters are plenty familiar with Hunan Wok, Uncle Chen's, and Maki Yaki, newer options like Yummy Cafe and China Dragon are unfamiliar to most--but after last week, not to some members of our intrepid staff.
Where the Simmons Dining Hall used to be, the GLOBE Room allows students to eat, study, and relax with comfortable sitting, kitchen, and multiple TVs. To get to the there from the main entrance, make a left through the doors and turn right down the stairs. You'll notice the sign "Dining Room" on the wall by the staircase when you take your first step. Once you reach the bottom of the stairs, go straight through the doors and turn left. The GLOBE Room will be on the left, across the hall from the billboard mounted on the wall saying "The Globe." But if you don't have time or any business to go in Simmons, enjoy this mini gallery.
If you went to the career fair and are feeling a little bummed about your time there, this post is for you. After attending the career fair, you might feel a little discouraged. You might even start to panic that you studied the wrong major and decide your life is over. This is not the case.
With a great view of the Lewis Katz Law Building, the Agricultural Science and Industries Building is another large structure on campus located just behind the Berkey Creamery. This five story building has an additional maintenance tower attached to the roof, which is protected by concrete walls and nets to block birds from entering. A small hole in the net wall is the only access to the roof, making the Lewis Katz building the first building in sight once emerged. The view spans throughout the west side of campus, including the water tower and power plant, and over to the east to Beaver Stadium.
Kicking off the tour of campus from above, I decided to start with the view from the tallest building structure on campus, Oswald Tower. Also known as the Department of Sociology & Crime, Law and Justice, this ten story cube placed just off to the right of the Pattee Mall, is possibly only recognized for its noticeable height. With a simple elevator ride up ten floors and then another staircase up, the entire 360 view towered over the other buildings, near and far. It’s that time of the year, folks. Time to shine your shoes and tie your best full-Windsor knot: it’s career fair time. The Bryce Jordan Center floor during the career fair can be extremely intimidating for newcomers or anxious students looking for a job, co-op, or internship, but it doesn’t have to be.
