Students Plan Annual Snowball Showdown

In an attempt to recreate last year's rather epic Pollock vs. East snowball fight, a Facebook event has been created proposing another battle Thursday night. There don't seem to be set teams yet, though proposals for on/off-campus and under/upperclassmen are being discussed.

If improvised alpine warfare is your thing, you might want to head down to Pollock around 8:30. On the other hand, if you don't want to be pelted by overzealous combatants, you might want to steer clear of the area.

If you're participating, remember that this is supposed to be a fun event, so be smart about what you're throwing; no one likes getting hit by an iceball.

The Natty Nittany: Back in Style

After a short hiatus, the Natty Nittany is back and looking for some well dressed Penn Staters!

This week, amongst a sea of plain UGGs and boring North Face jackets, it is nice to see someone bring a little color into this cold State College weather. I spotted Wan on her way up Shortlidge and immediately noticed her adorable handbag and earmuffs. If you want to keep your head warm and look cute at the same time, hoodies are NOT the way to go. A nice pair of earmuffs are what you should be looking for and these gray fluffy ones to the trick. I could do without the pattern in the scarf, but the bag really makes this outfit. In general, I love this outfit and I hope you will too.

I hope to see you look'n good around campus. Stay pretty!

Syllabus Week Rocks for Music at La Casa Blanca

Syllabus week. The time of year when you day dream off of the introductory chapters of over-priced textbooks, spend hours searching for a tapestry for the blank spot in your dorm room or meet up with friends you haven't seen in three weeks.

Well, what about fitting some good music in your unusually lax schedule? The fellas at La Casa Blaca on 221 E. Park Ave and the Penn State Songwriters Club are showcasing a diverse range of tunes this Wednesday, Thursday and Friday to help stretch your break out for one more week.

YAF’s Sam Settle Comments on Emerson Begolly

I asked Young Americans for Freedom President Sam Settle for his thoughts on Emerson Begolly's arrest this morning. This is what he had to say:

I think non-Muslims get involved in jihadism for the same basic reasons that people join any supremacist ideology--it provides a sense of purpose, a feeling of superiority, and a license to act in horrendous ways. Begolly was clearly attracted to supremacist beliefs (for example, he seems to have flirted with neo-Nazism). The step from Nazism to jihadism isn't difficult; both ideologies are vehemently anti-semitic and anti-Zionst.

In fact, there have been a lot of connections between jihadists and Nazis over the years: there's at least some indication that early modern jihadist leaders were inspired by Nazism, several prominent neo-Nazis have converted to Islam, at least one major American neo-Nazi has proposed an alliance with al-Qaeda, and Mein Kampf is widely circulated in the Islamic world.

Super Smash Bros. Tournament Tonight at Redifer

Nothing spices up the syllabus week boredom like some throwback video games. So, why not stop down at SHRA's Super Smash Bros. tournament tonight and show off your Nintendo skills?

The controllers are being broken out at 6:00 pm in the Redifer Cultural Lounge. Registration is $5 and winners will take home sweet prizes. The kids at SHRA even promised it would be cool if you pick Jiggly Puff. Who is your go-to Smash Bros. player?

Five Tips to Mastering Drop/Add

Now that your celebratory winter season gift exchange event is over and 2010 is but a memory, it is time to get back into the swing of things here at PSU. With so many courses to take and so little interest in any of them, what is a student to do? Luckily, the beginning of the semester starts with that magical time known as the drop/add period. Basically, you can drop and add classes without penalty.

It’s like trying on shoes except the shoes are credits and they cost thousands of dollars. Still, don’t let that stop you from aimlessly meandering through various Gen Eds and electives. To help you, here are five hints to really get the most out of drop/add.
