With THON only 2 days away, volunteers are in overdrive working out the final details of THON weekend and hoping to raise more funds to add to the total that will be revealed during the culmination of a years worth of work. In order to give the THON community some motivation in the final stretch, we reached out to some Four Diamonds families to ask them what THON means to them. Here are their responses:
In what has become an annual tradition in recent years, THON was featured on Good Morning America this morning. Seven Penn State students and volunteers, including PR Director Dana Giacobello, joined the hosts this morning to talk THON three days before the big weekend.
Morale has been a staple of the Penn State Dance Marathon for years and was the first official committee of the world's largest student-run philanthropy. Known for keeping dancers motivated and energized while they stand on their feet for 46 hours, moralers are responsible for keeping the energy up, maintaining dancer safety, and being huge fans of the color yellow. With THON a short three days away, we asked ourselves, "What if we had a moraler for everyday life?"
Every year during THON, the Morale captains stand onstage and lead their fellow Penn Staters in a five-minute song and dance encapsulating the greatest triumphs and trials of the past twelve months. The captains sift through 365 days of highs and lows to find the moments that best capture our year at Penn State and define our experience as a nation. It might be too late to add something about President Barron, but here’s what we think made the cut.
It wouldn't be THON season without hundreds of students walking around campus with shaved heads. The plethora of scalps is not a new fashion trend, but rather part of an annual fundraiser called "No Hair, Don't Care."
THON is less than a week away so it's time to figure out what you're going to wear. If you're in any sort of club affiliated with Penn State chances are you've already bought at least fifteen THON shirts in varying neons. So you're probably set from the waist up, but what about the rest of you? First of all, you're going to need shorts so that you don't melt in the BJC. Second of all, you're going to need knee high socks, because everybody else is going to be wearing them, and that's what it takes to be cool. Lucky for you, all you need is a little fabric paint, stencils, and some sequins and you'll have the THON outfit of your dreams.
