Interfraternity Council President Max Wendkos sent out a statement Sunday evening summarizing his views on THON's removal of its official name from canning materials, a story we reported Thursday evening.
Last week, THON announced that it would be updating its canning materials to make them more immediately recognizable to the general public.
What THON didn't announce at the time was that it also removed the organization's official name from canning materials.
Hundreds of student volunteers are headed out near and far this weekend for the first canning weekend of the THON 2011 season.
Cans and signs are provided by the Rules and Regulations Committee for canners to hold while standing at intersections and in front of stores.
This Sunday is the 10th Annual THON 5K. It will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the Bryce Jordan Center, the home of THON.

Registration costs $15 for a “fun run,” aka the no pressure, walk/ run. But if you're interested in the competitive race, registration is $18, where you'll be given a “professional timing chip.”
