Collegian’s News Adviser Bids PSU Farewell

Grab your box of tissues, the time has come to say goodbye.

It is always tough to watch someone leave Penn State, especially after that someone has been here for 12 years. And no, we're not talking Van Wilder style (although he may be close popularity-wise).

Collegian Redesign: “New Era” Not Without Problems

As you are now probably aware, The Daily Collegian website has adopted a new look. The site started sporting the new design Monday, and is a marked departure from the plain old blue-and-white interface.

Collegian Claims Several SPJ Awards

The Society of Professional Journalists announced its Region 1 Mark of Excellence Award winners in New York this month and the Daily Collegian sure cleaned up.

Collegian reporters achieved more than 21 individual awards and two big overall awards in the competition, which received more than 3600 entries. Collegian members swept all first, second, and third place slots in the Feature Photography and Radio In-Depth Reporting categories.

More on this after the jump.

Collegian Names New General Manager

The Daily Collegian's search for a new general manager has come to an end. When the newspaper's GM Gerry Hamilton announced his resignation, the Collegian began looking for a replacement (see our March 17 post). And they've finally found one.

Insiders at the Collegian have been quoted as saying, "Based on a statistical analysis of the number of hours put into this search by the Collegian's administration, the height and weight of the applicants for the position, their median age, and their average number of cups of coffee consumed daily, we have reached the conclusion that the quest for a new general manager was only slightly less treacherous and time consuming than Percival's quest for the Holy Grail. However, we believe our new GM will allow the newspaper to illuminate the Penn State community in never-before seen ways, making it a shining, glimmering beacon of journalistic light. He has truly been the pot o' gold at the end of the leprechaun's rainbow."

And who, you may ask, is deserving of such eloquent praise and acclamation?

Why, it's none other than our very own Davis Shaver!

Onward State Endorses Ragland for President

Since its emergence from the shadow of Jay Bundy, the Univeristy Park Undergraduate Association has worked hard to establish itself as the legitimate student government of Penn State University Park. While his administration has not been without error, Gavin Keirans-- the face of the UPUA for the past two years-- has done much to increase his organization's involvement in student life at Penn State.

However, Keirans has been unable to effect meaningful progress in the issue that is far and away the most pressing for our university-- the ever increasing cost of a Penn State education.

To find out why we support and endorse Christian Ragland for President of the UPUA, read the full post.

Collegian [Probably] Endorses Ragland

Oops!

The Collegian posted a copy of its Tuesday March 30 opinion page tonight. Gavin Keirans spotted it first and let the Penn State Twitterati know-- thanks @StudentBodyPrez. We read it and downloaded a copy before the Collegian removed the PDF from its server. Here it is in all its glory. No promises that this won't be changed before tomorrow, but I doubt it.

Point is, it looks like the Daily Collegian has chosen its horse in this presidential election. Take a gander and let us know what you think.
