Lamar Stevens Shines For Cleveland Cavaliers In NBA Summer League

Former Penn State men’s basketball star Lamar Stevens took the trip to Las Vegas to participate in this year’s NBA Summer League.

Stevens played all five games for the Cavaliers and impressed by playing a major role with the team. He averaged 14.6 points per game, which was the second-highest for the squad. Additionally, his 73 total points led the team and were 19 points higher than the next-highest total.

Among his other per-game averages, he finished third on the team in rebounds, fourth in assists, second in blocks, third in steals, and third in minutes.

His best game came in a win over the New York Knicks when he scored a team-high 21 points along with seven rebounds and two blocks.

In fact, his 21 points against the Knicks were the most a Cavs player scored in a game throughout the entire Summer League.

Stevens’ top moment may have come in the final game against the Suns. With 24.3 seconds remaining and the game tied at 85, Stevens converted a tough layup to give the Cavs a win in their final Summer League game.

Stevens signed with the Cavs after the 2020 NBA Draft as an undrafted free agent. Despite being undrafted, Stevens came in and made an impact with his new squad, including a game-winning dunk to give Cleveland a win over the Hawks.

Overall, Stevens played 40 games and averaged 12.5 minutes, 4.1 points, and 2.4 rebounds per game during his rookie season. His play earned him a multiyear contract from the Cavs after starting his career on a two-way contract.

Stevens’ impressive play this summer can only help the Nittany Lion as he embarks on his second NBA season. When the 2021 NBA season gets underway, Stevens and the Cavs will aim to improve upon their brutal 22-50 record from this past season that saw them finish with the third-worst record in the Eastern Conference.
