Gameday Coverage: Penn State vs. Ohio

After a completing a nail-biting comebacker victory over Purdue last Thursday night, Penn State is heading back to Beaver Stadium for its home opener against Ohio University.

The Nittany Lions return to Happy Valley looking to make some noise in the college football landscape after a massive win last week. Meanwhile, the Bobcats are coming off a 41-38 opening day victory over FAU last Saturday. Today’s meeting will be the first between the two teams since 2012.

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of Penn State’s home opener.

Television

Saturday’s matchup will kick off at noon EST on ABC. Dave Pasch and Dusty Dvoracek will be on the call, while Tom Luginbill will provide updates from the sidelines.

Weather

It’s going to be a beautiful day in Happy Valley, with a temperature of a sunny 73 degrees at kickoff, moving up to 79 degrees by the end of the game, according to AccuWeather. The RealFeel at kickoff will be 80 degrees and will stay in the low 80s throughout the game.

Winds will stay calm at 5 mph to start the game, but expect gusts up to 24 mph around 2 p.m.

Last Meeting

The last meeting between these two teams was certainly an emotional one for Penn State fans, as it was the first game for the Nittany Lions following the sanctions imposed by the NCAA in July 2012. The Bobcats traveled to Happy Valley for the season opener and left with a 24-14 victory.

Matt McGloin completed 27 of 48 passes for 260 and two touchdowns, while Allen Robinson caught nine balls for 97 yards. On the defensive side of the ball, Adrian Amos recorded a career-high ten tackles, while Michael Mauti recorded 12.

Injuries/Suspensions

We already know that Penn State defensive end Zuriah Fisher is out for the season with an undisclosed injury. James Franklin mentioned in his weekly press conference that he hopes to get tight end Theo Johnson back as soon as this week.

As for the Bobcats, running back O’Shaan Allison is out for the season with a shoulder injury.

Betting Lines

Penn State is currently a 26.5-point favorite, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. The over/under is set at 54.5 points.
