Penn State men’s basketball guard Ace Baldwin Jr. has advanced as a top-10 candidate for the Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Award, the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame announced Monday afternoon.
Named after Hall of Famer and legendary Boston Celtic, the Bob Cousy Award highlights the top point guard in Division I men’s basketball.
Baldwin, a graduate player, is one of three Cousy Award candidates from within the Big Ten, accompanied by Dylan Harper of Rutgers and Braden Smith of Purdue.
Baldwin Jr. leads the Nittany Lions in scoring with 14.1 points per game while also dishing out 7.8 assists per game, which ranks fourth in the country. Additionally, the reigning Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year has the most career steals out of any active Division I player, averaging two per game this season.
Starting on Friday, February 7, folks can vote for the Baltimore native to advance him to the next round, which will narrow down the list of candidates from 10 to just five next month. The final five candidates will be presented to the committee, which consists of top men’s and women’s basketball personnel, media members, head coaches, and Hall of Famers. A winner will be picked in late March.
