Compiling Crazy Things Seniors Have Seen On & Around Campus Before Penn State Wrestling Lost A National Title

Current Penn State seniors have seen some interesting phenomena around campus the past four years. However, they haven’t seen a single wrestling loss.

With Penn State wrestling recently clinching another team national title, seniors can officially and confidently say they’ve never seen the team lose. Between each win, however, seniors witnessed their fair share of events that aren’t canon by any means but still made the history books.

We compiled some of the craziest moments that some seniors may have seen around campus since setting foot in Happy Valley.

East Halls ‘Twerk Circle’

Back in 2021, right around the time current seniors started their college careers, they were greeted by a large group of students “gathering on campus, shouting, playing music, and twerking.” Some seniors may have even participated themselves.

Lion Shrine Vandalism

Just weeks after current seniors left for their first summer break, a recent Penn State alumna vandalized the Lion Shrine, among other campus landmarks, and was charged with four third-degree felonies. Although the shrine has since been repaired, the shocking incident certainly caused a commotion across campus.

Penn State Hoops In March Madness

Two years ago, against all odds, the men’s basketball team secured a spot in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 12 years. Although it exited the tournament earlier than anticipated, Penn State students cheered them on from the start and even took to Beaver Canyon to celebrate the team’s electric first-round win against Texas A&M.

Beaver Stadium Squirrel

During the current seniors’ third football season, they witnessed a squirrel sneak into Beaver Stadium and pounce across the field during the Nittany Lions’ game against West Virginia. We don’t think this was on any senior’s 2023 football season bingo card.

Waffle Shop Fire

In the fall semester of 2023, tragedy struck campus as one of downtown State College’s iconic spots briefly closed down due to fire damages. Luckily, no one was hurt, and the popular breakfast joint got back on its feet, remaining open today.

Four Ohio State Losses

For four seasons straight, current seniors watched as Penn State football lost to Ohio State time after time. Hopefully, this tradition will be broken next season.

McDonald’s Vigil

Last semester, downtown State College’s only McDonald’s closed to make room for another high-rise apartment complex, and Penn State students were not “lovin’ it.” Just two days after it was officially announced as closed, over 100 students gathered for a candlelit vigil, honoring the legacy of the fast-food chain.

Beaver Avenue Flood After Eagles’ Super Bowl Victory

Right when the Eagles won this year’s Super Bowl, students and fans flooded Beaver Avenue, turning downtown State College into a sea of green. For some seniors and Philly sports fans, this was a dream come true.
