Do you love writing and photography? Do you love Penn State? Do you want your writing and photographs to be seen by hundreds of thousands of people?

Well, if you do, good job. You’re in the right place. Onward State is hiring for the upcoming spring semester and looking for folks to join our team and help tell the Penn State story.

To put it simply, Onward State is Penn State’s blog. We were founded by three freshmen in Simmons Hall to provide commentary that is fair, authentic, and humorous; analysis that is critical and irreverent; and news that is relevant and accurate.

Onward State covers anything and everything relating to Penn State or in State College. That often means covering Penn State’s administration, breaking news, or student life. It also means covering Penn State sports and events like concerts. We like to have fun here, too, where we’ve asked every bar for a glass of milk, brainstormed 100 Penn Staters to beat the gorilla, lived in Willard for 24 hours, and made drinking games for pretty much everything.

As a member of Onward State, you get to have fun while also getting real-world experience. Our staff members have created excellent portfolios to help them after graduation through creating content for our site and covering live events. We have alumni at notable companies like The Athletic, The New York Times, and the NFL for a reason.

If you work for Onward State, your content will be seen. We are one of the largest student-run media outlets in the world, with over 350,000 followers combined and more than 8 million visits to our website annually.

You don’t have to be a journalism student to work for Onward State, either. Staffers are a diverse group of students from all majors and across the world. The one thing they all have in common — they come eager to contribute. We encourage folks of all years and backgrounds to apply and bring their creativity to the table. Whether you want to win a Pulitzer Prize or just want an outlet to use while preparing for a future in science, Onward State can be a pivotal part of your Penn State experience. It’s the students who make Onward State what it is.
